Welcome to our forum

Dear fellow social workers,

We have been providing consultative services to NASW members to help them with career changes, practice issues, ethical dilemmas and/or risk management. For the last ten years we have coordinated mentoring services over the phone among social workers in Maryland. We plan to continue doing that, but now we are now opening up the program so everybody can help. Feel free to post your questions/answers and let's see what happens.

  3. What can I do if my supervisor at my agency is not providing supervision as agreed? She cancels nearly every week and does not re-schedule. For the past 2 weeks she has cancelled supervision for all social workers at the agency. I'm looking for another job, but what can I do in the mean time? I am very behind in my hours but desperately want my LCSW-C. Suggestions? Thanks.

  4. Elyse,
Is there another LCSW-C in your agency who could step in and supervise you? Or, your supervisor's supervisor? Of course, you have the option of paying for supervision outside your agency. I think with either of these options, you and the (new) supervisor would have to sign agreements. I agree, you don't want to let weeks pass without getting your hours of supervision completed.

  8. I am an LCSW-C who has reentered the workforce after 9 yrs at home with kids. I am currently licensed and working at a community mental health center. I would love some additional guidance and supervision perhaps not specific to this agency, but related to issues working in outpt settings, diagnosing clients and refreshing my clinical skills. I am willing to pay for this service. Any feedbac/guidance greatly appreciated.

  9. I am a LGSW who is interesting in writing about intergenerational interpersonal violence in general and success stories from the Appalachian subculture in an effort to help. A mentor would be most welcome.
